Chaired by Professors Mehita Iqani (SU) and Anna Feigenbaum (BU), this roundtable series invites speakers working in innovative ways at the interface of science, communication, and society to engage in discussion about the relations between data, methodology and the exercise of scientific authority. It explores how scientific research has been harnessed into policy, official communication, popular culture, and public discourse. It also considers the inverse: How communications practices and structures work to produce scientific evidence.
Our speakers for our first roundtable are:
- Thema Monroe-White, Academic Director of the Campbell Center for Data Analytics, expertise in racial equity and STEM
- Laila Asmal, Associate Professor of Psychiatry, expert in Neuropsychiatry and Applied Epidemiology
- Linsey McGoey, Professor of Sociology, expertise in ‘Ignorance Studies’
- Amer Kanngieser, Geographer and Sound Artist, expertise in sonic methods and practices
- Alexander Dunlap, Social Anthropologist, expertise in green extractive development
This series is hosted by the South African Research Chair in Science Communications (Stellenbosch University) and the Centre for Science, Health and Data Communication Research (Bournemouth University).
