What role should compassion and care play in the work of science communication? With an interest in methodologies of non-violent communication and mindfulness, in this project we explore some of the deeper emotional, psychological and metaphysical aspects of inter-personal communication and formal communication. We ask how these methodologies might be integrated into science communication (understood to be both mediated through communications technologies and in multiple face-to-face encounters) as well as transformation in higher education knowledge economies. Through a sustained practice of reflection and dialogue, we seek to make reflexive and theoretical contributions to theories of hospitality in communication, and develop a toolkit to describe the role of communication in compassionate activism and vice versa.
