SA Research Chair in Science Communication
Our PhD Fellow, Taryn Mackay, has been awarded the competitive Stellenbosch University Postgraduate Scholarship Programme (PSP). The programme is one of the university’s flagship scholarship programmes to support emerging researchers among postgraduate students. Mackay’s PhD is a decolonial project that focuses on “uncovering and documenting the oldest southern African, indigenous matresence practices” (Mackay, 2023) where maternal health and happiness is the framework in which she centres her research. She hopes that her study will pay homage to and foreground Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS) “as an act of epistemic and hermeneutic justice” (Mackay, 2023). More information about her PhD can be found here.
